The Future, Threats to Mankind

The Fate of the World – End of Day Prophecies

Predictions about the End of Days have come in many forms, some of which have been recorded for centuries. Many people currently on the planet believe that the world will end in the near future, while others hold on to the possibility that our planet will continue to evolve for millions of years; and humans, along with it. Some of the prophecies about the ending of life on Earth as we know it include:

The Biblical Apocalypse

Christianity is currently the dominant religion in the Western world and many people believe in the end of days scenario described in the book of Revelations. Opinions differ as to how quickly the events will take place, and range from a few days to a few hundred years. Events that will occur to mark the end include: war on a large scale, the destruction of the Earth by mankind and widespread apathy.  A large group of Christians believe that the Apocalypse began in 1914, when the Devil was expelled from Heaven. Along with his demons, Satan is currently tempting those on Earth and Judgement Day continues to draw ever closer.

Nostradamus’ Reign of Fire

The 16th century French prophet, Michel de Nostradame, better known as Nostradamus, is well known for the predictions he has made about our future. These include: The Great Fire of London in 1666, the rise and fall of Adolf Hitler, and the destruction of the New York City Twin Towers on September 11, 2001. In a letter to his son Cesar, Nostradamus predicted that the End of Days would occur approximately 7000 years later, in 8555. The event would begin with great floods, after which fire would reign from the skies, the likes of which nothing and nobody could survive.

Sir Isaac Newton’s Doomsday Prediction

Isaac Newton wrote many papers about his interpretation of both Christianity and the occult. His documents on alchemy and the Bible, include a Doomsday prophecy, which the scholar believed will occur in 2060. Newton gave no exact day for when the world will end, but also cautioned that any interpretation of the Bible could be flawed.

The End of the Mayan Calendar

The Mayans were masters of astrology, and kept detailed calendars with records of events. Many people were shocked to discover their calendar ended on December 21, 2012, and believed that this would be the end of the world in which we live. The world did not come to an end on that date, however, and researchers have confirmed that the Mayans believed that this day marked the end of an era and the ‘rebirth’ of Earth.

Stephen Hawking’s Scientific Predictions

A respected member of the scientific community, Stephen Hawking has made several predictions about the possible fate of the Earth. Some of these are: the replacement of human beings by artificial intelligence, nuclear technology wiping us out, as well as climate change, overpopulation or the possibility of a pandemic outbreak. He also encourages human expansion to other planets, within the next hundred years, to ensure the survival of our species.
